Amici Italiani Scholarships

The Amici Italiani Scholarship was created to honor and promote the values of scholastic achievement and Italian-American heritage in Wayne County, Ohio by providing financial assistance to students attending post-secondary schools in pursuit of their career and educational goals. The scholarship is based on merit and academic promise, not financial need. Although preference is given to applicants of Italian heritage, anyone may apply.
Eligibility:
- Must be a Wayne County, Ohio resident.
- Must be accepted as a full-time traditional or non-traditional student in an undergraduate degree program at an accredited post secondary institution for the fall semester/quarter of 2013.
- Must be pursuing an associate’s degree, a bachelor’s degree, or a one-year certification program.
Awards Available:
- Up to four (4) renewable $1,000 scholarships to be awarded annually.
Awarded on basis of:
- Academic performance.
- Career objectives, potential commitment, and abilities of the applicant with the significant contribution to their chosen field of study.
- Community Service involvement.
Deadline:
April 15, 2013 for the 2013-2014 academic year.
Application Process:
- Completed application (and supporting documents) postmarked by deadline.
- A 250 word essay explaining why applicant should receive an Amici Italiani Scholarship that includes:
- Academic Goals
- Planned Major
- Time requirements for certificate, diploma, or degree
- Career Goals
- Italian Heritage (if applicable)
- ACT or SAT score report.
- High school transcript (for prospective students) or college transcripts (for current college students).
- A completed, signed, and dated Scholarship Agreement form.
- A recent photo (head and shoulders view) to be used for news release.
- The Amici Italiana Scholarship Committee will review all qualified applications and recommend award recipients based on merit and academic promise to the Amici Italiani Board of Directors, who will make the final approval of the scholarship awards.
- Scholarship awardees will be notified by May 15, 2013.
Notice: It is the responsibility of the applicants to ensure that their application materials and supporting documents are postmarked/received by the application deadline.

2011-12
The 2011-12 Amici Italiani Scholarships were awarded to five local college students. They are: Tesha Collins, 2011 Triway High School graduate, who will attend the University of Akron and study accounting/social services; Blake Doty, 2006 Waynedale graduate, senior at University of Akron, majoring in business and marketing management; Peter DiFilippo, 2010 graduate of Wooster High School and a junior at the University of Akron/Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine in the accelerated M.S./M.D. program and also is a natural science major; Natalie Fry, 2010 Triway graduate, a sophomore at John Carroll University, studying biology/pre-med; and Jesse Massaro, a 2011 Triway graduate, who will attend Ohio State University to study theater and journalism.
2010-11
The 2010-11 Amici Italiani Scholarship were awarded to four area students. Two students were in high school and two others were currently enrolled in college.
Students awarded scholarships were: Peter DiFilippo, of Wooster High School. DiFilippo attended the Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine’s six-year B.S./M.D. program. Lara Ginsburg, a student at Malone University, was majoring in organizational management. Blake Doty, a business management/nursing student at the University of Akron, received a scholarship. The final recipient was Natalie Fry, a student at Triway High School who planned to study biology/pre-med at John Carroll University.
